Wooden Classroom Cubbies: Individual Student Storage for Every Class you Ever Teach!
Cubbies are an essential item in lower grade classrooms. Although expensive to buy, many have a lifetime guarantee thus making the long term value very inexpensive. Teachers are always on a budget and can get very creative with the items in their classrooms. Here are a few ways to use cubbies:
Classroom Supplies
Another great way to use classroom cubbies is for classroom supplies. Each cubby can hold an item that is used by the class. Teachers can creatively label each cubby with the name and a picture of the item. This adds another way for students to be responsible. Teachers can ask students to get items from the cubbies and students can easily identify and return supplies to the teacher. Some ideas of classroom supplies that could be stored in cubbies are glue, construction paper, scissors, play dough, or letter blocks.
Multiple Locations
Some classroom cubbies have heavy duty casters so you can move them at will. Traveling cubby units have rolling wheels on the bottom that make it easy to use the cubbies in multiple locations. If students are dropped off at one location in the building and picked up in another, teachers can roll the traveling cubby unit as needed. This type of unit also makes storage simple. Teachers can roll traveling units into a secure place on the weekends or on summer break. Teachers who move from classroom to classroom love these portable units.
Student Work
In a classroom with many students, teachers appreciate a simple way to hand back and organize work. Cubbies are a great way to do both. Cubbies can hold worksheets, notes to parents, and other classroom papers. Cubbies can also hold art projects that may be too large to fit into folders or backpacks. When parents pick up children, or it is time for the buses, work can be easily retrieved and brought home. With this set up, it is less time consuming for teachers to find a students name especially if they are organized alphabetically.
Student Supplies
Classroom cubbies such as the Mainstream Cubby Units keep student’s belongings organized and separate making it simple for teachers and parents to get items when necessary. I like these units because they have colorful plastic tubs inside the cubbies that can be taken out as needed. This is a very practical way to keep things clean, neat, and in order.
There are many ways to use classroom cubbies that help teachers, students, and overall classroom organization. Whether cubbies are used for student supplies, classroom supplies, student work, or in multiple locations, living without this perfect storage solution is something no educator should have to do.

High School Students’ Experiences in a Newly Participatory English Classroom. $111.39 New – Adolescents are often constructed as struggling readers by schools that use a transmission of knowledge model.
